The conflict between Anna and her parents along with the conflict between Anna’s lawyer Campbell and her guardian ad litem Julia. The way that the characters develop you can feel the pain that each one of them feels. You feel the pain of Sara who can’t face the thought of losing her daughter. The pain of Jesse, who feels rejected and forgotten by his parents. The pain of Brian, who isn’t sure if going through with the lawsuit is right. And finally, the pain of Kate, the reason that everything is happening. Her physical pain and heartbreak, as she loses the few friends that she makes in the hospital. This book put you in the place of these people and made you really believe that all of it was happening. I really liked the way the story evolved as you began to see more and more pieces of the puzzle from different points of view. Each chapter changes narration from Brian, Anna, Sara, Jesse, Julia, and Campbell. I think that many people will like the way that this book touches your heart. You feel differently about all of your little problems after reading this book. Everything seems so small in the grand scheme of life.
